Love Letters

#21 - 39

Hey you. I want you to know it's okay to struggle sometimes. To cry. To not be okay. Sometimes life is really tough, and we all have seasons of growth and challenge. It's okay to rest. It's okay to breathe. It's okay to step away and come back another day. Just know you're not alone.

I love you.

22

Hey you. You deserve every smile on stranger's faces, so smile just as bright as the sun. And with every return smile, you'll have brightened the world just a little more.

Everyone has hard days, but hard days end. The only thing certain in life is change, so let yourself change forward, into the you you've always dreamed of being. I believe in you.

23

Hey you. Today is a day for celebrating the little wins. Did you conquer inertia and get out of bed? That is something worth celebrating on its own. Or conversely, did you decide that today was a day for self-care and burrow back under the covers? Self-awareness deserves celebration.

Celebrate the small things, for every big thing is just a series of small things that added together over time. And remember: It's okay to feel joy in the little moments, even when the world outside seems caught up in panic and disaster.

I love you.

Hey you. I just want to remind you that the world can be a beautiful place if you look for it. Life exists in the world around you, and that's worth honoring. Take some time today to watch the birds. People watch for a few minutes, even if from a distance, and challenge yourself to find two things to love in every person you observe. Look in a mirror and challenge yourself to find two things to love in yourself.

Sometimes things are hard. There are cruel, senseless moments, but it's up to us to give those moments meaning. Let the meaning today be one of growth and change. Grief is a powerful force of transformation, and so is anger. Let your anger fuel your actions toward change, and your grief fuel your love and cherishing of what's important to you in the now.

We only have this moment. Support each other. Make it a moment worth living in.

I love you.

24

Hey you. Today, I want you to take a moment to breathe.

Just for a few minutes, focus on slowing and deepening your breath. Feel your stomach expand with each deep, slow breath in, and sink gently inward with each slow exhale. You may not have all the answers, but you're here, breathing through this moment, and that's worth something.

Is the air you're breathing the cool, crisp air of the morning, or the hot, humid air of summer? Is it stuffy office air? Are you outside, with a breeze? What does it smell like?

With each breath in, breath in life and love. With each breath out, let go of some pain and sadness. You're alive, and the past is in the past, so live today as if it's the first day of a brand new future.

You're alive, so live. One breath at a time. In. Hold. Out.

I love you.

25

Hey you. I know sometimes it feels like there's always another layer of wound to unfurl. It can be exhausting. Sometimes thinking about the future can just make you feel more broken, but I promise: It won't always be that way.

Every layer you make it to the other side of tells a story of your strength. Every realization you grow from makes you stand a bit taller. Someday discovering the hurting places inside won't feel like a new breaking. It'll feel like healing.

You'll know that finding that wound is the first step to recovering from it, and you'll trust in your ability to do so.

It's okay if you're not there now. Just keep walking. With every footfall, with every breath, you come a little closer. One step at a time, one breath at a time, you are becoming a more whole you. So keep walking. Keep breathing. And know that I'm cheering for you.

I love you.

26

Hey you. I want you to know that every decision can define our lives if we let it.

That can be a terrifying truth, or it can be a breath of fresh air. All the choices you've made up to this point don't have to define your future if you don't want them to. So learn from and grow past your mistakes into the bright, thoughtful decisions of the future. And know it's never too late to start again.

I love you.

27

Hey you. Today, I want you to sit with your feelings. Not with judgment or hurt, but with curiosity. Ask them what they're saying, and why. Sometimes the most painful feelings have the most to teach you. Speak healing to your wounds, listen to your body, and listen to your heart. Above all, keep walking.

I love you.

28

Hey you. I know it's not easy. Some days just don't feel good. That doesn't make you broken, though. It just makes you human. We all have days where we can't see the light. We know the feeling of falling; of abyss. But in those moments, know it's not the end.

Just as there are wells of darkness, there are also bright moments of deep love, and they will come again. And you will be worthy of them when they arrive, because you a human and humans deserve love. No matter the stories your brain may concoct, no matter the mistakes of the past, you deserve love.

And I love you.

29

Hey you. I know that grief can be an ocean, and so many things can cause the waves to rise. It's not always the loss of a loved one, though it can be. Sometimes it's the betrayal of a cherished ideal, or just the inevitability of change. Whatever might be making those waves loom high, know you're not alone.

Know, too, that grief has stages. There's no particular order to them, and sometimes they blur together into a painful mess, or you think you've gotten through and there's that reminder crashing over you again. The tide comes in, the tide goes out, and sometimes, it just hurts, or brings out the bitterness. And that's okay. Healing isn't neat, and it certainly isn't linear. What it does, though, is strip away walls. And by doing so, it leaves you the choice to build them again, or step past the rubble into the world as more yourself.

Sometimes we have to build those walls a few times to understand their weight, and that's a part of healing, too. If you feel up to it, though, reach out today. Even if you're just stretching your fingertips past the rubble before rebuilding that wall, it's a step toward yourself. Or maybe take that rubble, and build a bridge instead. You're not alone in your grief. You're not alone in your sadness. You're not alone in your anger.

You're not alone.

And I love you.

Hey you! Here's today's reminder you matter. No matter what's happening in the world around you, there's still the wonder of sky and stars, water and trees, life and seasons and nature.

And you are a part of that wonder. Every scar and stretch mark, every tattoo and wrinkle, piercing and freckle, is a sign of a life truly lived and a heart worth loving. Thank your scars for what they taught you. You are alive for a reason. Don't give up.

I love you.

31

Hey you. Tonight, I want you to look out at the sky. Every star in the sky is a moment in the past still bringing us beauty in the present. The light from the stars reaches us when the stars themselves may already be gone.

Just like starlight, your kindnesses will reverberate into the future in ways you'd never expect, brightening lives long past the present.

So do something kind today. Reach out to a friend and tell them what they mean to you. Family's not always blood, but it does require nurturing. Do something kind for yourself, too. Something in service of your long term goals, not momentary ones alone.

Just like starlight, the small moments last and add beauty for time to come.

I love you.

32

Hey you! I just want you to know your goals and dreams matter. Your hopes matter. Your needs matter.

It's worth seeking your future, and you don't have to shrink your hopes in yourself for others. Even if they want you to. Even if your goals are different. You deserve to shine with everything you are.

You deserve to live with everything you are.

So breathe deep. Step forward. And come alive.

I love you.

33

Hey. Just a reminder that the voice within you is there for a reason. You have the power to make a difference through your words. And whether it's one life or many you choose to defend, you can have an impact.

So speak up when you see injustice. Stand up for others, and stand up for yourself. And when you find yourself in the position of wrong-doer, as everyone does at times, listen, apologize, respect boundaries, and grow.

Remember: We all make mistakes at times. So make amends, make a change, forgive yourself, and continue to grow.

Change is always possible. Growth is always possible. As long as you are alive, the story isn't over. And while sometimes all of us say or do the wrong thing, our mistakes don't have to define our identities.

We can create a better future. So let's create it together.

I love you.

34

Hey you. This is your reminder that it's okay to feel. Even the hard emotions are there for a reason. They teach you about what you value, and what values you aren't honoring that are important to you. It's okay for those values to change, too, but it's also important to recognize that they don't have to match the values of the people around you to be worthy. So sit with those values, and sit with those emotions. Let yourself feel them, and be curious about what they are there to show you. The truer you are to your own values, the more fulfilling your life will be.

I love you.

35

Hey you. The next time you get the chance, watch the sun set. Recognize the process of saying goodbye can be just as beautiful as saying hello. Whether it's saying goodbye to a day, a person, a moment, or a memory, find beauty in the letting go.

You deserve joy.

I love you.

36

Hey you! I just want you to know that it's okay to feel and show grief and pain or other emotions you may be feeling. It's okay to hurt. It's okay to cry. It's okay to not be okay.

It's also okay to want to heal, just as it's okay to not be ready to.

But even in tiny moments of happiness sandwiched between hard times, know your joy can transform lives if you let it. It can even transform your own. So unleash the sunrise when the moment is right.

I love you.

37

Hey you. I just want you to know that in those moments where a smile feels impossible or your emotions feel all-consuming, it's okay to ask for help, and it's okay to ask again if the first (or second) person can't or won't help you.

Asking for help is not weakness. It is the purest, truest strength, and you don't have to face this alone.

I love you.

38

Hey you. I know change can be scary at times, or painful. It can leave you feeling uprooted and unmoored, or alone, lost at sea. But change is not just an ending. It's also a beginning.

If you're hurting in this moment, honor your feelings. It's okay to not be ready to look for a lesson or silver lining when everything's falling apart. You don't always need to stare resolutely at the bright side when the world feels like it's crumbling. It's okay to crumble too at times, or cry. It doesn't name you weak or broken, just human.

It's okay to take time. It's okay to sit in the hard space and just feel what you're feeling.

It's okay to not be okay.

When you're ready, reach out. We'll be here.

I love you.
